Have you ever had somebody come up to you and say, oh man, you’re so lucky you can Fabricate your very own luck. This video is all about the topic of luck. I have had people come to me and Say to me Frank.

Oh, you’re so lucky You know like you have this promotion just drop in your lap and I worked hard for this promotion man you just don’t see all the back work and That’s the key to fabricating luck the great inventor Thomas Edison the inventor of electricity electric companies the Lithograph just tons of other things Had a really famous quote, I’m gonna read it so I don’t screw it up here Opportunity is missed by most people because it’s dressed in overalls and looks like work He is so right, but that’s what people see as luck really and truthfully luck Which is just dog luck is when you buy a lottery ticket and it wins you have no control over that situation But you do have a lot of control over Luck in your life, especially when it comes to your profession and how successful you are Some people say oh that person is so lucky because they were born with a golden spoon in her mouth. I Really hate that. You know, sometimes they are sometimes they absolutely are but it’s usually the very few We can look at people like Elon Musk and say well Elon was born with a golden spoon in his mouth.

No, he wasn’t He started out just like you and me and he’s worth billions of dollars now So what what made what made luck what what was it that did it and we touched upon it? And then the fact is a lot of hard work The thing is what you have to do is you have to take a few of these steps I’m about to outline if you want to fabricate luck in your life, which you can take advantage of and you should if You want to be wildly successful financially independent, etc, etc, etc So step number one you have to know where you’re going. Do you have to know what you want your future to look like? What are you interested in some people say go after your ambitions and your passions and other people say that’s the worst thing you can Do I don’t know what the right answer is. Personally.

I went after my own passions I always wanted to be a programmer when I was like really young and One day when I was pushing close to 50, I realized wow I never sought out my passion in life, and I’ve always felt like I’ve Slightly missed the mark. Hmm so what I did was I Retrained myself. I went back to school Got some chops when it comes to programming and started going into programming and I was like This is exactly what I should have done 30 years ago Because I really enjoy it.

That’s where my passion is. That’s where my skill set is. That’s how I think and That’s where I fit really well So step number one is I really believe that you really have to kind of figure out where are you good? I know one of my children right now is looking at a career change and They’ve been humming and hoeing about accounting and I’m like you should go for it Even though they they’re like, oh, well, it could be boring could be this but when I watch them Organize and get into numbers They just get right you can see that they go 150 percent in and that says to me that they can be really good at this now They just got to get the chops figure it out and that leads me to step number two You have to get the education to support your dream And sometimes you got to go back to school.

Sometimes you got to take night school Sometimes you got to take a job that you might not normally take to get the experience and learn from somebody else’s dime I tell that all the time to my kids and to friends and family Sometimes the best way to get training Let’s say you want to learn how to become an accountant is to go work with a firm where you might start as a receptionist But then you start working and doing accounting stuff because it’s not unusual for the receptionist to keep the books up Not unusual in a small company It’s a good place to start and it’s a good place to get your chops allow The company you’re working for to give you as many courses as possible years ago when I was in the military When I wanted to go from electronics as I was originally like an electronics repair technician And I wanted to get into computers I was going in the right direction, but I wasn’t a hundred percent there, but I wanted to go this direction so I joined a section on base, which was the computer repair and maintenance section and the sergeant-in-duty was willing to Purchase courses which I could take and I did take them and I went and paid and wrote the exams and got the official Certifications and that leads me to step number three whenever you can get a certification for something get it It doesn’t matter if it’s a one-week course or a four-year course get those certifications. Those are credibility factors I’m working with somebody else right now who’s trying to get a job and they’ve retrained themselves as a programmer to as a matter of fact and I’ve been working with them and I said one of the most important things for you to highlight are your Certifications you went to film school and did this and you went and did this and you went and did it Get it on your resume. Those are things that are going to tell a prospective Hirer that you get stuff done really important because I know I look at it I know other people do too.

That’s your next step get those certifications. So you’ve highlighted your skill set You’ve got some training now You got some certifications The next thing to do is to do find a job in the area that you’re interested in as I mentioned earlier Even if it’s not exactly hitting the mark Know that the job you’re taking is going to move you in the right direction Don’t worry about the pay at this point in time. I promise you I promise you the pay will be good one day move in that direction get a job working in that area and all the time work to get better and get better and get better and get better and Be more helpful and be more there for that person now your boss I’m gonna be honest with you and a job is not going to make you rich Unless you’re the type of person who can put away a lot of money and become financially independent that way But that’s not what I’m talking about here.

I’m looking at success here as how far can you go with your career? How high can you climb? What can you do? How much can you earn in the long run? That’s what I’m looking at and Also be ready in the next step to move to another location or another company to help you Further refine. So in this next step, you’re gonna refine and refine and sometimes you’re gonna change direction That’s okay. I’ve changed direction on many occasions It’s actually running a joke in the family that it must be a decade because Frank is changing careers And I’ve done that when I was in my 20s.

I learned how to drive Heavy vehicles and that because I didn’t have anything else. I dropped out of school very silly me. I know and In my late 20s, I joined the military and got my electronics certification So I went and did electronics for about it about most of a decade and near the end of that decade I got certified at computers as a networking and break-fix person and Eventually that decade passed and now I went into programming here.

I am in programming I’ve been in programming over a decade now But I really felt that I found where I want to be because there’s a lot of variety in my field I’m reached high enough that my pay is really good the Positions I can go for are really good and there’s a lot there is the potential for a lot of variety there still which is just Brilliant. So that’s what I say. So that next step is you’re going to be going and Being ready to step forth in a different position in a company or in a different company altogether Always keeping your eyes on the long-term and that’s a really important thing to look at what’s going to happen is you will become lucky as you do this because people who promote people They don’t promote them because they’re lucky they promote them because they feel that they’re the best person There is a time when I was the chief technical officer in a company and I had a position which I knew was going to open up because the company was making pretty big shift on how they did operations and I had this one individual approach me and say geez, I really like to do that position.

Would you consider me? I said, yeah, I would but I would like to see you go and get some certifications Show me that you’re the right person for this position and they were like, yes, that’s exactly what I’m gonna do In the meantime, there’s another person who went and did that they didn’t ask Oh, I’d like to do that position or they didn’t approach me They actually went and did the training they paid they actually went and paid for the training themselves And it was not cheap and they went and did it and they got the certifications and you know a year or so later the job came up and I didn’t even post the job because this fellow approached me said hey look Frank, you know, here it is I went out and I got all these certifications and I’m ready to go Possibly I should have posted the job, but honestly and truthfully I knew he was the right person for the position So I just gave him the job. Oh my shattered nerves the other person approached me and they were very upset and hey you could say I screwed up and in some ways I did I should have posted the job and Disqualified him in a different way, but he didn’t go and do anything. He didn’t go and get any education He didn’t get any certifications He didn’t get any pieces of paperwork proof of finish that he actually knows what he’s talking about He was not prepared for the position at all So when that position came to shore it was available He couldn’t take it because somebody else beat him to the punch why it’s because they went and got those certifications There’s another great saying it’s it’s a quote from Jonathan winters And he states if your ship doesn’t come in swim out and meet it Absolutely, and that’s how people fabricate luck learn to be that problem solver because problem solvers make their own luck and The nice thing is remember I said earlier eventually you’re gonna get paid.

Hey, my hard work has paid me off Royally, I’ve continued to get certifications. I’ve continued to learn I’ve continued to to dig through and get through difficult tasks and It has given me more knowledge, it’s not that I’m any smarter. It’s just I have more experience and It allows me to get more experience because I already have more experience It allows me to literally fabricate my own luck in life right now I’m working on a project which is just causing me to absolutely want to bang my head into the wall But I’m gonna get through it and I know once I get through it.

It’s gonna be really really awesome Because this knowledge that I’m gaining is gonna be pretty unique But not only that pretty useful And I can see how companies could use it for the long run and I’ve already started talking to other people about it Telling him what I’m doing Hey, I’m doing this and wouldn’t that be interesting and they initially give me this look of oh, I don’t know I don’t know, but I know one day they’re gonna be like, hey I know somebody who knows how to do this and they’re gonna give me a call Awesome a good example of that right now is I’m working on the technology that Microsoft called Blazor that they put started putting out a few years back I’ve been watching Blazor now for many years never really matured until the one of the latest versions But I worked on other technologies that was very close to it Anytime I got a chance to work on something that was very close to it And now I’m working in a position that directly uses that technology and I’ve taken my C-sharp programming skills to a whole new level because of that again. I’m Fabricating my own luck and I know when I fabricate my own luck The end result is I am going to make more I’m gonna become worth more to the marketplace as it sits right now I’m kind of in a position right now that in terms of technology I’m on bleeding edge on a lot of things. So they’re People are coming to me and saying well, how will we do this? I was mentioning a few minutes ago the project I’m working on is causing me to bang my head into the wall is All about that and it’s a way to really reduce the costs lighting up a SAS or software as a service Using C sharp and Blazor and all these wonderful technologies But doing it in such a way that it’s very inexpensive and easy to maintain and also very robust So I’ll just leave it at that because really this video has nothing to do with that I just want to illustrate to you.

These are the things you need to do So I say to you get out there and start to fabricate your own luck in life You’ll get paid royally for it in the long run.
